Bloggage about Dollhouse

The New Bronze

Posted by: kaneohegrl in Untagged  on

So,  I missed the entire Bronze-age during the life of a much-missed, much-loved former child of Papa Whedon. I hope this little hole in the wall becomes similarly choked with the creative folks with credits and the little people who worship them.

My Very Important Statement is that the mass of viewers awaiting the Dollhouse debut come in with substantial brand loyalty and a clear understanding that the only people who can screw this up are people at the network who make disasterous decisions with the counsel of people like, as someone once said, Cletus the slack-jawed yokel. Pre-mature cancellation is the thing I'm gun-shy of, and I hope the suits have learned their lesson.

My Less Important Statement is, to the creative folks, no pressure! Really... no one's expecting anything amazing or cool or ground-breaking, even. Yeah - right. Lots of pressure. But, I'm sure I'm not alone in hoping a wonderful time will be had by all.

Many blessings on this project. I light a candle.

Take a pic, do a blog

Posted by: pieceofgosa in Untagged  on

Eh, ok.  This is just a final (my final) word on the genius that is Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.  I'm not going to go into any detail about the content, meaning, subtext or ending interpretations, enough has been written (much of it by me)  about that already.  I want to talk about the impact.  Nothing I have ever seen before has caused such a buzz online for being so short.  Let's remember we're talking about a piece of film that is the same length as a standard hour long drama (minus the ads, natch), the same length as TV shows we get 22-24 eps of in a season & it blew people away.  Truly, when we were waiting for it's release did any of us think that an independently written, financed & produced 45min short feature would be the top selling TV show on i-tunes for 3 weeks ?  I did not.  This can only be a wake up call for the networks, true they've had them before.  The DVD sales of Family Guy that caused a cancelled to show to be reinstated & the DVD sales of Firefly that led to Serenity being made, to name just two.  But will they listen this time?  I truly hope this is a shot in the arm for the big companies, that they realise that with talent, contacts & desire a product can reach a global audience without them having anything to do with it.   Maurissa, Jed, Zak & Joss said when they started this it was a risk, a trial.  It has to go down as a rousing success.  Let us hope that this inspires many other writers, actors & directors to take a risk & try something different.  Oh yeah & watch The Guild (written by & starring the lovely Felicia Day) it's what web-based TV is all about.

Canada Love Eliza ...eh ;)

It's great to hear that Dollhouse will make it to Canada. We haven't had anything up here since Tru Calling and we even missed the last episode. Eliza is far too talented to forget so it's great that she's back. Has anybody seen her last works since Tru Calling??? Are any of these movies ever gonna hit the big screen? We all miss her here...

Lost Things

While there's little to actually comment on yet, I've hope that 'Dollhouse' will last a little while longer than 'Firefly' did with Fox's abilities to blatently (and randomly) delete programming.

Though, I must admit, that I sense bits of missing plots with River coming out in this programming (not that I mind!).

Dollhouse pilot episode

Posted by: smkeough in Untagged  on

I must say, I'm terribly excited about this new series.

I'm worried, however, about a news posting that I found on The Wall Street Journal, which indicates that like Firefly, the pilot episode of the series will not air. Here is a direct quote:

"Fox Broadcasting Co. decided to forgo a pilot for its new series "Dollhouse" by "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator Joss Whedon, opting to invest money instead in building the elaborate, life-size dollhouse that will be the show's set."

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120692540745275735.html

Wasn't this a primary cause of the cancellation of Firefly? If this news is true, then I really do worry about how Dollhouse will fare. Although, various postings on this website indicated to me that the pilot would air, so I'm not sure whether to believe this news article. Does anyone have any other information to share?

First Post

This is my first day here.  I haven't even checked out the forums yet.  I miss Firefly.  This had so much potential and I grieved that the stories ended.

You see, I am a sucker for a good story.  I write them myself when I'm not watching them on TV or reading them from a book.  I started out life wanting to be an actress, and was quite good at it.  It let me slip into the character of someone else and gave me permission to explore feelings, thoughts and emotions that my abusive childhood had denied.  Then I started having kids.  They became my new focus and rehearsals and performances are hard to do when you are either big pregnant or nursing!  The love of acting didn't die though.  I spent a lot of time being frustrated that my options were so limited during this time in my life.  So I started writing as a release valve...  and kept writing.  As a result, I founded my own online peer-review writer's workshop at www.notebored.com.  I'm still in process of learning the craft, but I get to have company in that process.

Anyway, that's a peek at me.  I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you.

Cannot Wait!

Well, I have never really started my own blog before. So I will probably screw this up big time. lol.

Dollhouse sounds like it will be a great show and I cannot wait for it to air. I have seen and read a lot of things about it from other fans. Everyone seems so excited. So good luck to Mr. Whedon, Miss Dushku and every one else on the Dollhouse team.  Hope it's a hit!  :)

Hello!!!!!!

Posted by: tutorgyrl23 in Untagged  on

Hey everyone!!! My name is Shelby and I'm a huge Jossfan!

Ever since I heard about Dollhouse I've been really excited because I knew that it would be good because it came from Whedon's genius brain.  Eliza Dushku is an amazing actress and I've like everything I've seen of hers so far.

I'm also happy that Amy Acker will be in it too.  She was hilarious as Fred and great as Kelly Peyton in Alias.

So . . . hi!

The thing that i am personally the most excited about s the fact that Tahmoh Penikett is in it (i'm a 'slight' fan).

I'm actually currenly setting up a website dedicated to him,s o if any of you can help in anyway, let me know :)

Can't wait for the show and can't wait to get to know all of you:)

From the Beginning...

Posted by: vanillaberry in Untagged  on

I must say, I was late on the Buffy train. The show was a love/hate show, meant only for those who really understood it. I didn't understand it at first. For the initial four seasons, I paid it little head and rolled my eyes every time I heard it brought it. One day, a friend of mine adamently insisted that I flip on the television, if for no other reason than to see David Boreanaz in action - they were running one of their Buffy marathon repeat sessions. I got caught, as one frequently does in marathons, and I watched the last three episodes of the third season.

From that moment on, I was in.

I even went so far as to take a University course at one of the Big Ten devoted to the show. I've seen it countless times since, and I'm still an active and ardent fan...as my professor would have said, fan with a little "f" not a big "F." When I watch the first three seasons, I feel like I'm in high school again. When I see the last four, I feel like I'm finding my way into adulthood again. I still exerpience the pain and heartache of the characters as they move through their relationships and their emotions.

I'm not expecting Dollverse to be the next Buffy. I want it to find its own life and to grown into it's own world. I want the characters to be different, to shine with their own light and to ache with their own darkness.

But I'll admit, I'm hoping for that same fire. I'm hoping that I'll relate to it as strongly as I did Buffy. I've truly missed that...

And this time, I'm hoping to do it from the beginning...
