Did Echo swear in Dollhouse season two opener?

We’ve had emails about this, somebody has posted on another topic here, there’s been tweets aplenty and people were asking on Whedonesque.

The answer?  No, Echo did not drop the f-bomb in “Vows”.  The scene in question is during the Paul/Echo stiletto scene, in which Eliza says “frickin’”.  The problem appears to be Eliza saying Frickin’ sounds a bit like… something else to a lot of people.

So keep those FCC complaints at bay.  We’re looking at you, PTC.

  1. Ian says:

I just listened to it multiple times and it is definitely “frickin” as you state here. I’m not sure how it could be confused-maybe one of those things that if you convince yourself what you heard is one thing, it permanently becomes that thing in your mind.

  2. Beth Markley says:

No … she did NOT swear. It went something like this:

Echo/Roma puts her bare feet in Ballard’s lap looking for foot massage & says with a groan:

“How do people get married in freakin’ stilettos?”

    She may even have said:

“How do people get married in frickin’ stilettos?”

  3. Frank says:

what are you guys talking about??? it would have been any big deal if she did say “fuckin”???
Most of american movies I see, they say fuck 3 times per minute, wha´s the deal????

    • K says:

Frank, you’re not allowed to swear on American broadcast tv.

      • Which has never made any sense to me, since it’s not an accurate reflection of life and the real world. But then you get into that debate over swearing and the innocent ears of our nation’s children…

      • Frank says:

I really wasn´t aware of that, I´m not american and for the american movies I saw, they use fuck for everything, as a verb as a noum, as an exclamation, it´s like they don´t even know what it means anymore, they just put it in a sentence for a effect…like englishmen say “bloody this, bloody that”….

  4. Osiristi says:

Sounds a bit like “frakkin’”, replacement for the f-word familiar from the Battlestar Galactica franchise.

    • Lauren Jane says:

She didn’t curse. And she I personally don’t think she said Frack, but Topher did in Briar Rose. It made me gleeful.
