Dollhouse on DVD – some deets

We’ve been given the heads up about three things:

- There will be a DVD of the first season of Dollhouse.
- 13 episodes.
- Plus, very likely, the episode “Echo”, which will not air on FOX.
- Plus cast interviews, commentaries and other undecided extras.

Hooray! Anybody got any features they’d like to see?

  1. Anonymous says:

    Oh, great news about “Echo”!

  2. Thomas says:

This is great news. Hope the Echo thing works out.

  3. Kyp says:

I’d like to see a Season 2 preview. *crosses fingers*

  4. ProgGrrl says:

Remind me what is “Echo”? The original pilot ep that was scrapped for a restructuring during reshoots?

  5. Don says:

    @Kyp: That’s what I was going to say! :)

  6. wyndam says:

    Better come out on Blu-Ray.

  7. b!X says:

    @ProgGrrl Yes.

On DVD should be: Any convention panels they did. Or at least the upcoming Paley panel.

  8. azarule says:

I’d like to think this doesn’t mean they plan to only air four episodes and boost DVD sales with “never-before-seen new episodes!”, but I’m afraid it might.

  9. Anonymous says:

I assume there will be a Blu-ray also? DVD is sooooo 2008 lol

    @ azarule

    Er WTF?

  10. Anonymous says:

I’m so happy to hear this! I just hope that any Region 2 DVD (hopefully!) will still have all the extras.

  11. ProphecyGirl says:

Hopefully the DVDs will include some Joss & Eliza commentaries. Am I the only one who doesn't care about Blu-Ray? It's been out for awhile and I don't see the draw. I personally think they're going to go the way of laserdiscs, but I just might be old-fashioned that way.

  12. azarule says:

I’m totally all about the Blu-Ray. I always watch my old Buffy discs and find myself thinking “WOW, this is great! The only thing that could make it any better would be if it was slightly sharper!”

  13. Kevin says:

@azarule, the plan is to air all 13 episodes of the first series.

  14. americangrl69 says:

Deleted scenes and bloopers. I always love watching those. An interactive tour of the Dollhouse would be cool too.

  15. Impaler General says:

I agree with b!x. The Paley Fest panel coming up in April shuold be part of the DVD set, for those who couldn’t make it

  16. azaruleisclearlysightimpaired says:

Yes azarule, the only visual advantage Blu-ray has over DVD is that its ‘slightly sharper’ LMFAO

I like watching clips of the actors and actresses reading the scripts, auditioning for the characters they would later be chosen for. They put audition footage on the season 1 DVD of Dark Angel, and they also did that for the first X-men movie. I’d totally give Joss/Kevin/The Rest of You brownie points for that! If you can’t squeeze it in, I understand, it’s not frequently requested.

I also like “diaries,” which is basically an actor/actress from the show walking around the set when scenes aren’t being shot, with a cheap camcorder or phone, acting all goofy. :D

  18. cuardin says:

azarule: The problem with your line of thought is that Buffy is intentionally shot on crappy film stock as an artistic act. It would look exactly the same in HD.

As for features I would like to see, I only have one: Release this year. I am sick and tired of DVDs coming out two years after each season premiers.

  19. Amy says:

Does this mean that they are cancelling the show? Oh please God, I hope not.

  20. Anonymous says:

    @ cuardin

azarule was being saracstic. He/she seems to be under the impression that Blu-ray isnt much of an improvement over DVD and they wouldnt get any more enjoyment from watching shows in better quality.

This is obviously nonsense however. Blu-ray offers vastly superior image quality to DVD if the source marital is of decent enough quality, such as with Dollhouse.

I hope that it comes out on Blu-Ray!!!!!!!! The people that say Blu-Ray isnt much better than DVD are dead wrong. They probably havent even watched a Blu-Ray on a high def tv. I used to think that Blu-Ray couldnt be that much better than DVD….then i actually saw a Blu-Ray playing on a high def tv in Best Buy…then a couple of days later I bought a 42″ 1080p plasma and a PS3!!! Blu-Ray is amazing!!!!

Also I hope “Echo” is on the set

  22. Kevin says:

Your wish is my command, Anonymous. Dollhouse on Blu-Ray: http://www.dollverse.com/2009/02/dollhouse-on-blu-ray-for-you-high.html

  23. Barbara says:

    Cool!

  24. Anonymous says:

won’t there be more than 13 episodes this season if they decide not to cancel after the first 13 episode run?

  25. willow says:

cast diaries, cast commentaries, q&a with the cast/crew, and bloopers/deleted scenes are what i'm hoping for.

  26. Anonymous says:

Will there be dollhouse DVDs for region 2? well… i think that’s the right region, the one England’s in :)

  27. Anonymous says:

@ the 13 ep question… since dollhouse came in as a half season (meant for a january air) it will only be the 13 eps. if it is picked up for season 2 it will most likely come with around 22 eps.

kind of the same way buffy season 1 is only 12 episodes.

  28. Anonymous says:

Does anyone know when it is meant to be coming out on dvd and weather it will be region 2 ?
Though it should be out on region 2 discs because fox is it’s sponsor.
If anyone knows they can email me on jessraw_95@hotail.co.uk
